I was watching Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) a few days back. There is a scene in the movie where the three friends sit in the bar and talk about their trip to Spain. This is where Hrithik Roshan’s character starts saying, “Sab kuch likha hua hai” (everything is written).

I used to wonder about this statement. Some people say that your life has been written since the day you were born. You have just been born to play a part in this act. Whenever I try to counter this logic, people talk about luck and tell me that sometimes you get what you want, and sometimes you don’t. If it were up to you to write your own story, then you probably would have gotten what you want all the time.
So, if everything is written, then why bother? Why should we put in effort to achieve what we want in life? Why should we even struggle and suffer when we know we cannot change anything? Well, I look at it this way. Your story is already written, but there are some blank pages in the book. This is where you can write a small part of your story and decide how the rest works out as you move forward. Fortunately or unfortunately, you don’t know when you will get that blank page to write your own story. This gives you hope and excitement to do something that can change you every day. This is what makes life truly amazing.
